The appointment of Varenya Mohan-Ram as Executive Director comes after a four-month leadership vacancy within the organisation.
Canberra, 27 March 2025 – The Bus Industry Confederation today announces the appointment of Varenya Mohan-Ram as its new ED. Well known to Australian bus and coach for his years of support and advocacy, he has also presented various high-level topics at past BIC and state association events.
Mohan-Ram brings over 30 years of strategic management, government and cross-sector experience to the post. Having worked across multiple transportation sectors, including bus, aviation, road, waste, furniture removal, warehouse and refrigerated transport, he has made supporting industry the cornerstone of his career.
Varenya’s most recent role as National Business Relationship Manager at Team Super (formerly TWUSUPER Fund), saw him play corporate liaison for the largest transport and logistics companies contributing to the Fund.
He has been a member of various industry committees and stood on the boards of organisations such as the Refrigerated Warehouse & Transport Association of Australia Ltd (RWTA), the Service Industry Training Advisory Council, Asthma Australia (Northern Territory), and the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA), of which he was Chairman (NT Group).
Additionally, he was a National Executive Member of the Australian Labor Party between 2011 and 2013 and headed up the Northern Territory Branch as General Secretary, where he helped provide party members a platform for change and supported the creation of economically and socially sustainable communities.
Varenya holds a Bachelor of Science, a Diploma of Financial Services in Superannuation, a Master of Business Administration (MBA), and a Finance for Senior Executives from Harvard Business School.
Speaking about his new appointment, Mohan-Ram said:

“In the time I’ve worked with the bus sector, I have felt great respect for the individuals who provide such an important community and economic service for Australia. The strength of the BIC team and its council attracted me to contribute my ideas for the betterment of the bus industry.
“I look forward to your ideas, your knowledge and guidance in helping me shape a better tomorrow for our sector.”
Meanwhile, the BIC Secretariat team – having held the Canberra fort since December 2024 – is excited to move forward on a number of initiatives for 2025 and beyond with their new chief, including the National Conference (BNC25) in Perth at the end of the year.

His first official engagement as the BIC Executive Director will be the Queensland Bus Industry Council (QBIC) Annual Conference in Cairns next month where he will also be speaking. Jason O’Dwyer, QBIC Executive Director, welcomed Varenya’s appointment:
“Varenya has made significant contributions particularly through his role at TWUSUPER where he has been instrumental in driving industry engagement and assisting develop the transport industry.
“His expertise and passion for transport superannuation education and leadership will add enormous value to our event.”
Varenya will take the helm at the BIC on Monday, 7 April 2025.
