New ADAS service to help drivers use vehicle technology safely

Austroads has launched a new ADAS Guidance Service to help drivers, assessors, licensing authorities, and the broader community better understand and safely use Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

At the heart of the service is the ADAS Assist website and app – a central, easy-to-access hub offering clear, practical information about common ADAS features such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and autonomous emergency braking.

The App can be downloaded from either Google Play or Apple App Store.

While many modern vehicles are equipped with these technologies, research shows that drivers often lack the knowledge to use them effectively. As a result, they may miss out on important safety and convenience benefits.

The ADAS Assist platform provides:

  • fact sheets, FAQs, and explainer videos
  • simple, consistent explanations of ADAS functions
  • resources designed to build confidence in using vehicle technology.

In addition to helping everyday drivers, the platform includes tailored guidance for driver assessors and licensing authorities. These materials are designed to support the safe evaluation and instruction of drivers using ADAS-equipped vehicles.

“A well-informed driver is a safer driver,” said Austroads Chief Executive, Dr Geoff Allan.

“The ADAS Guidance Service empowers drivers with clear, consistent information to get the most out of the safety features already in their vehicles.”

Developed in close partnership with road safety experts and transport agencies across Australia and New Zealand, the service contributes to improved safety outcomes and aligns with national strategies such as Vision Zero.

The full suite of tools is now live at adasassist.com.au and available for download via the ADAS Assist app.
